Offering wholesale buyers a sample of your product is a vital component of the ordering process. For emerging artists, it can be the boost you need to break into the wholesale industry. Some buyers need to touch, feel, and see (in person) a product before investing and placing an order. That is one of the main reasons physical trade shows were developed - allowing buyers to meet the artist, and see and touch the product. At IndieMe we know the value of offering samples and have created our Sample Program.
How it works:
We made it simple! All artists are set by default to NO samples provided. If you wish to offer samples and be a part of our Sample Program navigate to Artist>Manage My Store>Store Settings and scroll down to the Samples section. Change the default from NO to YES and enter your sample policy. Once done, be sure to save the page. Your policy will appear on your store next to your Checkout area. In addition, you will be visible on the Samples Showcase page. To view the current samples by showcase go to Buyer>Sample Program and view by Showcase.
Each Showcase has its specific page of sample listings. Your listing will include your Showcase Image (so be sure you have one and it is current), your store name, and a portion of your sample policy with a link directly to your store. That's it!
FAQS:
- My product line consists of very large or heavy products, how can I afford to send out samples?
Buyers will not expect you to send them a large or heavy sample. If you are a glassblower, consider making small ornaments or small decorative items that highlight your glassblowing abilities, your detail work, and your color options. Potters can send out small items highlighting their glazes. - I cannot afford to send out free samples, can I still participate?
Yes! Buyers understand that some artists are not comfortable sending out freebies. How you choose to send out samples is your choice. You can charge full price and offer to offset the cost if the buyer places an order within 30 days; you can offer to sell the sample at wholesale cost to the buyer, or you can offer the sample and request the buyer return it after a specific amount of time. The choice is yours, do what makes the most sense for your business. - I sent a bunch of samples out now what do I do?
Follow up! Make that call, and send that email asking the buyer for the order. - I am not sure what type of sample would work best for me, can you help?
Yes! The IndieMe staff has creative ideas and will be happy to help you put together your sample program and policy. Send us an email at service@indieme.com.
How Can Distributing Samples Benefit Your Business?
Sending samples to your customer base can be advantageous for your business in several ways.
- It can generate new sales leads
Sales leads refer to potential buyers. Prospective buyers become sales leads when they express interest in your offerings and provide their contact information. Sending samples to these prospects can convince them that your wholesale business prioritizes value, thereby encouraging them to engage in business with you. - It increases brand awareness
Wholesale marketing can be challenging, especially if your products are not gaining traction. Often, the primary reason for low sales is simple: buyers are not yet familiar with your brand or products. Distributing samples of your items is an effective way to introduce your business to potential customers. By making them aware of your offerings, you enhance the likelihood of them making purchases. - It shows confidence in your product
Offering product samples reflects your confidence in your merchandise. This confidence can leave a positive impression on buyers. Wholesale buyers prefer dealing with sellers who exhibit faith in their products. Demonstrating such confidence can instill a sense of value for your products in the minds of consumers. Confidence is contagious in business, and showcasing it can lead to a greater appreciation for your products and company.
